I’ve always been an avid reader. I used to spend chilly winter weekend days like today curled up in my favorite chair, coffee in one hand and a book in the other.

I don’t get time to read much now that I have kids of my own, but I need to make sure I’m still taking time to read – not just because it’s something I love to do, but because I want my kids to see reading as something that is an enjoyable part of every day life. Whether I’m reading the newspaper, a magazine or a book – or even blog posts online – I want to talk with my kids about what I’m reading that I find interesting and point out things that I think would be of interest to them.

My kids are just starting to learn to read, but I imagine that someday we’ll be able to spend a perfect winter day curled up on the couch together, each reading something we love.
